At the University of Alberta, Douglas P. Hube (b. 1941) has specialized in the study of short-period, massive, binary-star systems through spectroscopic and photometric observations. A tireless promoter of astronomy locally, he served as national president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada from 1994 to 1996.
