Named in honor of George E. N. Scoon (1936–). Born in Grenada, West Indies, Scoon studied in The Netherlands and the U.K. in the fields of telecommunications engineering, general management, and business administration. He now works at the Future Scientific Project Division of the European Space Agency in Noordwijk.
