Named in honor of Durley H. Bratton (b. 1923), who has been a mentor and inspiration for amateur astronomers and telescope makers in the Memphis, Tennessee, area since the late 1960s. An electronics technician by profession, he became a highly skilled optical craftsman, constructing or advising in the construction of many telescopes. His designs often involved remarkable resourcefulness and ingenuity, such as using borosilicate glass cut from old color television picture-tube faceplates as f/2 Schmidt camera primary mirror blanks. Name suggested and citation by R. Tucker.
