Named in honor of Reiner Stoss (b. 1975), German amateur astronomer at the Starkenburg Observatory, Heppenheim. Stoss is an ardent observer who detected most of the minor planets found there. His main interests are the establishment of an NEO search program and to make follow-up observations of known NEOs. Name proposed by L. D. Schmadel.
