Named in honor of the Italian physicist Carlo Rubbia (1934– ), winner of the 1984 Nobel Prize in physics for his decisive contribution to the large project that led to the discovery of the field particles W and Z, communicators of weak interaction. His discovery has supplied a fundamental check of the unified theory of electro-weak interactions. He is the fourth Italian Nobel laureate in physics. (M 33790) _ _.
