Pieter Van Coudenberghe (1520-1594) was a famous Flemish apothecary well-known for his botanical garden, which was visited by many European savants for its 600 exotic plants. This garden, with a complete list of all plants, was described by the Swiss naturalist Conrad Gesner in Horti germaniae (1561).
