French poet Wilhelm Apollinaris de Kostrowitzki (1880-1918), the son of a Polish emigrée, took poetry into unexplored channels. Inspired by an unhappy love-affair, he wrote his Chanson du mal-aimé. His poetic masterpiece Alcools (1913) utilizes unusual verbal associations and daring typographical arrangements.
