McHone (b. 1944), a versatile scientist with interests in geology, oceanography and planetary science, has worked for 25 years on the detection and verification of terrestrial impact craters throughout the world. His studies are based on fieldwork, mineralogy and remote sensing data, including synthetic-aperture radar.
